I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream And Scream And Scream
Bob Harris has a funny BUT NONETHELESS QUITE REAL suggestion for George Bush's Inauguration Day in January.
I will be participating, even if it's just Bob and me screaming, with the phone on so we can hear each other from 2,000 miles away. Of course, I plan to scream so loud the phone might not be needed.
Seriously, though, pass this around. As Banana Republic becomes less a brand of clothing and more a description of our country, we should learn from people who've survived in other banana republics. It would be particularly sweet if there were enough people screaming in Washington that it was audible on the steps of the Capitol. Perhaps people who live nearby could even rig up their stereos and phones to broadcast the sound from people in other cities.

here it is. But perhaps still bigger. Perhaps the revolution will not be emailed (ask Dean), but I beg the question, what can a New Yorker like yourself do to help massively grewin' change?
Posted by: Joshua Cook at November 10, 2004 05:15 PMhere's an idea i've come across recently (in the last 12 hours) - attend the inauguration parade - just yourself, no signs, etc. - then as Dear Leader comes by, at a signal, turn your back to him
silent, yes - but noticeable if enough people do it - and a real plus, no tissue damage to anyone
i plan to do it - i live in easy driving distance of dc
here's where to get more info -
Turn your back on Bush.
... Let's start from the start: Inauguration Day. ... On Inauguration day, we don't need banners, we don't need signs, we don't need puppets, we just need people. ...

Now Charles, that's not exactly it. The metaphorical implications alone are wholely off. With our backs turned the prez goes on to do all of the evil things that he does. The emphasis on non-violence is key and it is an eloquent statement but ... I guess us liberal elites aren't ready for massive change ...
Posted by: Joshua Cook at November 11, 2004 01:48 PMWe are all complicit. This administration or the administration that actually won (Kerry) would persue the policies that would uphold the non sustainable consumer life style. This administration is the corporate elite's chosen pawn to grab the oil and save the economy. The real vote we make is the one we make with our $$$, and until we refuse or until we live in mud huts and grow our own food we are Bush supporters of a murderous empire.
