Worst Of All, These Violent Extremists Often Speak At The Council On Foreign Relations
Here's a screen shot from the Council on Foreign Relations page about a recent speech there by Donald Rumsfeld. See if you can spot the irony!
As I've said previously, it's like a genuine compulsion with Rumsfeld. Later in the speech he fulminates about "our enemies, which propagate lies with impunity -- with no penalty whatsoever."
Herr Rumsfeld seems to be acquiring the obsessions of Herr Goebbels which kept him hot under the collar for decades on end. Perhaps, the next time he'll start harping on the 'stab in the back' by un-American intellectuals...
Posted by: sk at February 19, 2006 01:57 PMYea, caught that. He knows it works because this administration has used it quite skillfully on Americans.
"They are doing it".??? He is doing it!
Posted by: spiiderweb at February 19, 2006 06:40 PM...Edward Bernays, Walter Lippman, yeah, and Goebbels too. Christ, Chomsky has been writing and lecturing us about this phenomenon for quite some time. Rumsfeld has apparently plagiarized by rather poor paraphrising the chapter entitled "Consent without Consent" from Chomsky's Profit Over People: Neoliberalism and Global Order.

Posted by: almostinfamous at February 20, 2006 02:07 AMOur "opinion elites" are about as dangerous as a gerbil. They don't need to be manipulated. Just feed them.
And where's that "collective will of free people?" Lost at the Mall and Cineplex.
A nation of sheep.
Wow. Can we rule out satirists or script kiddies posing as the Council on Foreign Relations?
