"Mike and Jon, Jon and Mike—I've known them both for years, and, clearly, one of them is very funny. As for the other: truly one of the great hangers-on of our time."—Steve Bodow, head writer, The Daily Show

"Who can really judge what's funny? If humor is a subjective medium, then can there be something that is really and truly hilarious? Me. This book."—Daniel Handler, author, Adverbs, and personal representative of Lemony Snicket

New Internet Stuff

1. Jim Hruska, a former Army Ranger and instructor in counterterrorism, has been blurgging for a while at Ranger Against War. Particularly interesting is an article he wrote in 1988, called "Terrorism: Is it War?"

2. 16 year-old Caleb Hayes has started Youth Democracy to encourage young folk to get involved in politics. He himself became Vice Chair of the Olympia, Washington Democratic party at age 14.

3. One man's take on the Swingin' Bonobos.

4. Jim Johnson has started a site delving into his perspective as a progressive Christian at Disciples from the Left.

5. I've said it before, but now I'm going to say it again in all caps: BOB HARRIS LIVES THE WORLD'S MOST UNUSUAL LIFE. I'm proud to belong to the same species as him.

Is it time for an update on your Nixon - Bush polls with Bush down to 33% in the new Newsweek?

Is this off topic? :)

Just wanted to drop by and say how glad I am that you began guest blogging at TMW (where I first saw your stuff). You and Mr. Tomorrow always blog uber-cogently.

Thanks Jonathan, for including that little bit of sweetness on the Bob Harris page. I was chagrined at the comment on the last post that chastised people for laughing. Poppycock!

I join protests, write letters, hold vigils, and spend a great deal of time crying and fretting. But I also take my smiles and laughs where I can find them. And I am grateful to find some here.

Jonathan,

Thanks for the great links and I found the Bob Harris link to be particularly uplifting.

Perhaps more important than the Bush rating the Newsweek poll says,

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15167150/site/newsweek/

“If the election were held today, 51 percent of likely voters would vote for the Democrat in their district versus 39 percent who would vote for the Republican.”

On the other hand I find it disappointing that the polls reflect this Foley garbage more than real issues. On the other, other hand if it works I will not complain. On the other, other, other hand I still do not identify with the moral majority.

As a leftist Christian myself I went eagerly over to Jim Johnson's site--on my computer, at least, it's virtually unreadable. Blue on brown. If I look very hard I could maybe read 10 words a minute. And no comments or web address to write to and complain (unless it's there and I can't see it.)

If you know this guy, you might want to tell him he might as well keep a private diary because no one will try to read his blog. Unless, of course, the problem is at my end.

Yeah, I noticed that too and checked up on it at the time and realized it was correct...but now I can't remember exactly why. I think the 200,000 number is right about American *killed*, whereas there were many more non-combat solider deaths.
