My Prediction
I have a prediction: if the U.S. ever deteriorates to the point where we're rounding up Muslims in extermination camps, Victor Davis Hanson will criticize Americans who oppose this as "appeasers" who "haven't learned the lesson of Munich."
Posted at December 6, 2006 05:37 PM | TrackBackyes, vd has no limits whatsoever. but then again, who gives a shit what vd thinks? he is really, really beneath you. just my 2 cents.
Posted by: Guest at December 6, 2006 06:23 PMWell, thank you for saying he's beneath me...but this doesn't really have to do with him in particular. It's just a joke about these people generally and what they call "appeasement."
Posted by: Jonathan Schwarz at December 6, 2006 06:54 PMDidn't Michelle Malkin already propose death camps for Muslims?
Posted by: Lloyd at December 6, 2006 07:04 PMI hear what you're saying & I respect it. But I am becoming increasingly allergic to any mention of right-wing dipshits, VD in particular - after a few years now it just makes me think of the creative, intelligent work that the left could be doing if only it (them - us - you - whatever) made up its mind not to dissipate its force in responding to assholes. I mean, the guy is just some asshole, right? Why play defense against an asshole? I think intelligent, passionate people such as yourself could contribute more by focusing on constructive, positive action. Anyone with half a goddamn brain isn't taken in by VD and his ilk, anyway, so what's the point? Those were my cents 3 and 4.

According to wiki:
In 1991 Hanson was awarded an American Philological Association's Excellence in Teaching Award, which is awarded to undergraduate teachers of Greek and Latin. He has been a visiting professor of classics at Stanford University (1991–92), National Endowment for the Humanities fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences, Stanford, California (1992–93), as well as holding the visiting Shifrin Chair of Military History at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland (2002–03). He was a visiting professor at Hillsdale College in 2004 and 2006[1].
Hanson writes weekly columns for National Review and Tribune Media Services, and has been published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, American Heritage, City Journal, The American Spectator, Policy Review, The New Criterion, and The Weekly Standard, among others.Posted by: abb1 at December 7, 2006 03:09 AM
Well, it fits the pattern:
camps for natives (...erm.. "reservations")
camps for blacks (...erm... "prisons")
soon to be built by HolyButtons
camps for immigrants
and, as the guy predicts,
camps for muslims
damn asians... had to live on the other side of the planet... otherwise, there would've been
camps for asians: the dream that never was
...fucking geography!
also, i'd like to make a prediction:
when even the last Hill Billy, bible-blet texas redneck will loose faith on "terrorism" there will be another ism to fight against: ecologism, hence:
camps for ecologists
well, prolly, to make the transition smoother they'll call them eco-terrorists.
already we've read about really implementig things liek the 1992 "Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act"
Those darn eco-terro-islamofascito-communist are trying to destroy the great American Economy!
And, like with Bush, some 60% of americans will wear fur coats even in summer and hang dead cats drown in skin moisturizer next to the flag... You know, "patriotic" stuff... Well, at least for 4-5 years, until they wake up and realize how retarded they look to everybody else...
Posted by: Uncle Bob at December 7, 2006 05:10 AMabb1: yeah, we all know he's a classics scholar. what i said stands, he's just some asshole.
Posted by: Guest at December 7, 2006 05:14 AMBut certainly an asshole with this sort of a resume and this kind of opportunities for advocacy is not just some asshole?
Just like Messrs. Bush and Cheney, for example, are not merely some assholes.
Posted by: abb1 at December 7, 2006 06:25 AMabb1, thanks for the clarification. I thought this guy was from the boy group Hanson - you know, maybe he grew up and stuff.
MmmmBopp.
Posted by: Aaron Datesman at December 7, 2006 07:48 AMdamn asians... had to live on the other side of the planet... otherwise, there would've been

um... executive order 9066?
Posted by: Dcleep at December 7, 2006 09:04 AMGuest, I can sympathize. VDH is beneath contempt. However, part of his job is to make the contemptible mainstream and to give cover to people who have an immoral, illegal and destructive agenda. People accustomed to an authoritarian culture are particularly vulnerable to his rationales. Jonathan's satire makes them harder to sustain. It also gives them an escape if they ever work up the nerve to jump. It's easier to laugh your way out of idiocy than be shamed out of it.
Posted by: J. Alva Scruggs at December 7, 2006 11:47 AMJ. Alva & abb1: I shouldn't be using bad language, I apologize for that. J. Alva's point is well taken, thank you.
Posted by: Guest at December 7, 2006 01:54 PMGuest, your larger point is well taken. The time when any of those loons could expect a hearing is long past.
Posted by: J. Alva Scruggs at December 7, 2006 02:34 PMSo true! eerie, terrifying, and yet resonant with a sort of nightmare viability..
for example, I'm currently entangled in a flamewar- er, i mean, a mature battle of wits on Youtube with someone named SamFreedom. The topic is how our wars are OK, because terrorists are so incredibly awful, what with the indiscriminate bombings and torture. But when I try and cite the mountain of bodies the US has stacked up and our international torture campaign, he chides me for 'not having the stomach' for such a war. Such is discourse in
America. And the mindblowing thing is these people, with a massive stomach for bloodletting (as long as the casualties are part of the Other) is that they likely would go along with a much more fascistic, genocidal sort of counterinsurgency. AAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!
