As Shocking As This Sounds, I Suspect Condoleezza Rice May Not Be 100% Honest
The Israel-Lebanon war lasted from July 12-August 14 last year. Recently the BBC reported this:
A former top American diplomat says the US deliberately resisted calls for a immediate ceasefire during the conflict in Lebanon in the summer of 2006.Former ambassador to the UN John Bolton told the BBC that before any ceasefire Washington wanted Israel to eliminate Hezbollah's military capability.
Mr Bolton said an early ceasefire would have been "dangerous and misguided".
He said the US decided to join efforts to end the conflict only when it was clear Israel's campaign wasn't working...
Mr Bolton, a controversial and blunt-speaking figure, said he was "damned proud of what we did" to prevent an early ceasefire.
Here's what Condoleezza Rice wrote for the Washington Post on August 16 last year:
For the past month the United States has worked urgently to end the violence that Hezbollah and its sponsors have imposed on the people of Lebanon and Israel...Posted at April 4, 2007 05:20 PM | TrackBackWhile the entire world has spent the past month working for peace, the Syrian and Iranian regimes have sought to prolong and intensify the war that Hezbollah started.
Who to believe??? John Bolton??? Condi Rice??? John Bolton??? Condi Rice??? John Bolton??? Condi Rice??? John-------
Posted by: Mike Meyer at April 4, 2007 10:43 PMcondi's first sentence is a work of art. i've gotten so tired of tipping my hat to their lawyers, i don't even wear one anymore.
For the past month the United States has worked urgently to end the violence that Hezbollah and its sponsors have imposed on the people of Lebanon and Israel.
and when we try to end the violence, are we trying to stop this specific fighting, now, or are we trying to stop all future fighting, by preventing hezbollah from engaging in military confrontation?
la, la la, la la, condi doesn't say.
while the entire world has spent the past month working for peace is no better. to the bush-cheney family, iraq was a peace effort, you just have to look at it in the long term, if you're capable. snort.
Posted by: hibiscus at April 5, 2007 07:37 AMSomeone wake me up when we start shunning psychopaths like Bolton, as opposed to giving them government positions and having news outlets seek their opinions.
Shorter Bolton: Lebanese citizens? Fuck 'em!
Posted by: Lame Man at April 5, 2007 12:33 PMRight up there with Condi's lament vis a vis HAMAS' election victory "Why was it that nobody saw it coming?"
Or her revisionist recounting of Bush & Co. efforts pre 9/11 re: the predator program.
