Nir Rosen: "Iraq Does Not Exist Anymore"
If you haven't already read Democracy Now's interview with Nir Rosen, perhaps the best American journalist covering Iraq, you should read it now.
It's all interesting, and all hideous. Did you know Sweden's taken in 40-50,000 Iraqi refugees? And America's only allowed in 700? To be fair, of course, America is just 1% of the size of Sweden.
Posted at August 22, 2007 05:31 PM | TrackBackWE are NOT the Iraqis' friend. We are there to rob and murder them. Bringing refuges here would be helping them. Helping them is NOT part of the game plan. It's only used for a talking point, rhetoric to sell the AMERICAN TAXPAYER on the idea of KEEP PAYING. It works.
Posted by: Mike Meyer at August 22, 2007 07:47 PM"I was doing research on LexisNexis, and I found that in May 2003 universally the US press was talking about when do we got to war against Iran? Iraq has been such a success. We brought down Saddam’s regime so quickly. So now, Iran is next, obviously."
Ha. First thing that comes to mind is "If only they ever stopped talking like that", but that's very unfair of me. The US press has definitely changed it's tune on this topic: now they're all talking about how Iraq has been such a failure that we have no choice but to go into Iran is next, obviously.

Posted by: buermann at August 22, 2007 08:43 PMBut didn't you hear? The swedes are lovely people, while america is just inherently good. If you are already inherently good you are not obligated to such pesky things as actual good deeds, you know.
Posted by: IM at August 23, 2007 04:01 AMI would be interested in what kinds of numbers or estimates Nir Rosen or anyone else has about Iraqi refugees in Lebanon. After mentioning how difficult it is to get there, he alludes to Christian, Shia, and Sunni Iraqis all having fled to Lebanon (the Sunnis to the Palestinian camps).
Posted by: Nell at August 23, 2007 04:04 PMThis explains why the Prez was on tee vee worrying about the bloodbath that would take place if American troops pulled out of Iraq. He was wondering If Sweden would be able to take in enough refugees to avoid a genocide?
Posted by: Eric at August 25, 2007 12:52 PMWell sending them to sweden might be a crueler fate. We will turn them all into atheistic liberals practising free sex within a few years... :)
