It's Never A Bad Time To Compare George Bush To A Crazed Murderer

How do crazed murderers justify their actions to themselves? Here's a piece in Slate about O.J. Simpson's book If I Did It:

"Nicole was the enemy," O.J. realizes as he leaves for her house with a knife in the car. "I'm tired of being the understanding ex-husband. I have my kids to think about."

Hmm:

White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card said yesterday that President Bush views America as a ''10-year-old child" in need of the sort of protection provided by a parent..."

''It struck me as I was speaking to people in Bangor, Maine, that this president sees America as we think about a 10-year-old child," Card said. ''I know as a parent I would sacrifice all for my children."

On June 12, 1994, Nicole and O.J. Simpson's daughter was almost nine years old.

The Bush quote is wrong. It's not

>> ''I know as a parent I would sacrifice all for my children."

It's

>> ''I know as a parent I would sacrifice all my children."

I can’t find my Tonka toys! Mommy!

Actually the true nature of national leaders is revealed by Charles de Gaulle

“In politics it is necessary either to betray one's country or the electorate. I prefer to betray the electorate.”

--Charles de Gaulle

You have to wonder what would prompt someone to make a comment like that about Bush. Seriously, did Card think that would improve Bush's image? 2009 can't come quickly enough...

Murderer, yes, but not "crazed."
Most murderers are not crazed, except in Hollywood movies, which are to the real world as ketchup is to vegetables.

True enough, but in the case of both Bush and Simpson I think "crazed" would accurately apply.

I had the same reaction to the Card quote as Ripley. This guy is a friend of Bush? Because I've been saying the same thing for a while now, and I'm not a friend of Bush.

With Simpon, maybe so.
With Bush, as you noted earlier, oil seeems to you as our prime motivation. So killing in Iraq is done for the interests of US industries, for the continuing or increasing control of resources for use and profit to these industries. An old story behind our foreign policy.
I don't see a "crazed" piece in it. Greedy and heartless, sure, just as is their attitude toward America's working and middle class.
With Bush, add stupidity and a touch of delusion. Not sure those add up to "crazed."

I'm not sure donescobar's point directly contradicts Jonathan's. When people do evil things like directly kill an ex-spouse or indirectly kill thousands of innocent individuals, they often rationalize these acts with various "I didn't have a choice" statements.

Bush and the neocons have convinced themselves they have to remake the Middle East because unlike, say, Darfur or Burma, they can't just turn away from violence, repression, etc. They rationalize their action in Iraq -- where there is oil -- just as they rationalize their inaction in other places where there isn't oil.

Somebody only really gets to be called "crazed" when they really really believe the "don't have a choice" statements they come up with -- i.e., the neighbors' dog made me kill people. Bush and Simpson do understand, in the end, that they did have a choice; they just are trying like hell to dodge that terrible truth.

I think it's probably, "....sacrifice all your children."

But many possible interpretations exist. El Presidente, his English is not so spifferifical. Often, even after the White House cleans it up for the transcript.

The remark about the Ten Year Old Child is less flattering for the American people than one is going to expect. What do you expect when you rule 300 million ten year old children? Do 300 million ten year old children lead or be led?

Sorry, but your comparison of OJ Simpson to Bush has a few problems, starting with the autopsy evidence.

There was no aspiration (no inhalation of blood) in Nicole Simpson. Nor was any blood found in her mouth or sinuses. Long short, she wasn't breathing or bleeding (otherwise known as dead) when her throat was cut. Likewise, there was about a half cup of blood (the contents of his heart) recovered from Goldman's chest cavity, meaning that he was bled out (without blood, meaning dead) before he was stabbed in the back. Nicole somehow arranged on the front steps, blood poured and THEN her throat cut? A dead Goldman stabbed in the back and then sat up against that tree stump. Sorry, if OJ killed them he did it some other way, waited for them to die, then arranged the bodies to look like he killed them. In which case, he's even dumber than writing a book pretending that he killed them.

No, better to compare George Bush to Hitler. Trained in cruelty in an unloving, dysfunctional family, with sexual proclivities submerged, a psychopath given the reins of a country to further the profits of corporate powers, who killed lots of people along the way.
