Matt Taibbi Stuff
New Rolling Stone article: "Mike Huckabee, Our Favorite Right-Wing Nut Job"
New Huffington Post interview: "Screw the Bus"
MORE: Dan Coyle points out another recent Taibbi interview, with Reason:
Taibbi: Anyone who is willing to put up with as much shit as necessary to become a U.S. senator or president has to be a sociopath. That’s why you see all these crazy behaviors popping up with Sen. Larry Craig [R-Idaho] and [former Rep. Mark] Foley [of Florida]. These people have to drive their true selves so far beneath the surface to present this clean face to the world, and that’s why they end up indulging in these subterranean weirdnesses.

He was doing so well until the last paragraph of the Huckabee article. Sure, he had the usual empty slams you'd expect from the Powdered Wig Pundits (like "It Girl"), but at least he honestly pointed out the PWP's love for any politician who flatters them and pats them on the head. Then he had to end with a slanderous 'joke' about Howard Dean, like those funny jokes about Gore that put us in Iraq.
Posted by: hf at November 15, 2007 12:47 PMYeah, I noticed that too. Occasionally Taibbi will veer from the Path of Righteousness, but those occasions are so rare I don't worry about it.
Posted by: Jonathan Schwarz at November 15, 2007 12:54 PMWell, he certainly came off better with Off the Bus than he did in the recent Reason interview, where he seemed to be in a really bad mood.
Posted by: Dan Coyle at November 15, 2007 01:25 PMWhat is it about the American political system then that gives a progressive atheist sexual libertine and bon vivant a snowball's chance in Hell of running and winning as himself?
Posted by: En Ming Hee at November 15, 2007 07:44 PMGotta love Reason.
"The Liberal Candidate
Is Rudy Giuliani a new Barry Goldwater or a new Bobby Kennedy?"
Posted by: StO at November 15, 2007 08:11 PMWhat a fraud Taibbi is. Yeah I'm the libertarian who favors heavy regulation of industry. Kind of like Clinton-FDR libertarianism, i.e. the exact opposite of libertarian, except give Taibbi credit for the cool stuff like blunt smoking. Plus, who could be bothered to read a whole magazine article on some swamp thing creationist politician who ain't gonna be president of the Decatur chamber of commerce, never mind the United States. And what kind of dipshit would write one? Who even reads RS anyhow? I bet their demographic is very AARP by now.
Posted by: vince_foster at November 16, 2007 12:19 AMNo writer does a better job at conveying the scorched-earth cynicism of our political class today. More journalists, I think, should be required to do their apprenticeships covering politics in Russia.
