Birthday Presents
Dennis has a highly entertaining story about the nineties liberal adoration of John McCain.

Posted at January 31, 2008 09:48 AMI will say I never shared any "liberal" fondness for McStain, nor ever understood it.
He's a fucking "lifer," if not in absolute fact, then certainly in spirit. Gung ho for the fucking war!
One thing to remember: McStain lost his "command," his 'ship'--the A10 or whatever it was he flew on his murderous, barbaric bombing missions over the North.
Jonathan, you know a hell of a lot more about this that I do, but does McCain himself candy-ass what he was doing over the skies of Hanoi like these (figuratively) bleeding heart types?
My experience with soldiers is that they know damn well what they did, and regard their experience at best as a moral vacuum, or more clearly as just plain brutality. That's why most of them don't like to talk about it.
Run for office, though, it is a different deal. Wave the bloody shirt, get all those people in their tv rooms dewy-eyed about our boys, etc. please pass another coca-cola (Trademark).

Posted by: Mike Meyer at January 31, 2008 04:31 PMSpeaking of Dennis, I wonder if he's rethought his opinion of Glenn Greenwald? I ask because it seems with his most recent columns on the Bush-enabling Dems in Congress, Greenwald seems to be doing more than any other recovering Democrat to shake off the mind-numbing fog of party loyalty and see the Dems as they really are.
Posted by: SteveB at January 31, 2008 05:20 PMWhat is it with these people? Why can't they recognize, even if they were anti-war, that McCain did Very Bad Things in that war? Just like the Viet Cong did Very Bad Things?
Posted by: Dan Coyle at January 31, 2008 05:39 PMFor me, if it's Hillary or McCain, I plan to vote for Ralph Nader. Go Ralph!
No, Mistah Charlie, you've got it wrong - if you hate Hitlery, you're supposed to vote for McCain. We've already discussed this at length, and it's been proven quite conclusively, using such diverse sources as ABC News and Andrew Sullivan, that this is the case. Please adjust your behavior accordingly.
