The Craig-Vitter Amendment

By: Bernard Chazelle

Senators Larry Craig and David Vitter are co-sponsors of S. J. Res. 43: "A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relating to marriage." As ThinkProgress puts it:

If passed, the bill would amend the Constitution to declare that marriage “shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman.”

They're still haggling over the precise language. Vitter is pushing for "marriage shall consist only of the union of a man and his diaper." But Craig stalls.

GREED AND STUPIDITY may dance hand in hand but HYPOCRACY is their whore. (Craig stalls---that's funny)

No this really isn't funny.

Clearly these two have no consciences - like a lot of Republicans they are sociopaths. Having no conscience means no empathy, no pity, no concern for others.

They have the ability to profoundly impact the lives of people here and all over the world and they don't care who they hurt or who suffers as a result of their actions.

The circumstances in this instance are amusing because of the hypocrisy but these are two very dangerous people.

It's clearly a dare. They're betting that even a spectacle this absurd won't get the Democrats to just howl with laughter and roll in the aisles, which is the only reaction it should get. They know full well how brazen this looks; they just know the opposition doesn't have the guts to treat it with contempt.

Laugh if you like, but I think it's great that Senator Craig has taken a firm stance against destroying traditional marriage. Wait, not "firm", did I mean "wide"?
