IBM's Hillary-Bot Not Ready for Prime Time
You have to admit IBM's Watson computer was impressive on Jeopardy!. But I think before rolling out the new Hillary 8000 they should have programmed it with the capacity to imitate human emotion:
I called, NOW its YOUR turn.
Posted by: Mike Meyer at February 17, 2011 03:08 PMRay McGovern asked, as he was dragged away for the crime of standing up with his back turned to the Secretary of State, “So this is America?”
Yes, Ray. This is America. They are willing to kill many, many civilians oversees – roughing up a few malcontents here is nothing at all.
It is ironic that Hillary lost to Obama partly because she was perceived as belonging to the War Party whereas Obama didn’t – but actually, if you listened to him, Obama also declared his loyalty to the War Party (“get those troops out of Iraq, the dumb war, to send them to Afghanistan, the smart war”). He has proven his loyalty to mass murder many times since then.
Who knows, maybe they’ll pay for their crimes in the next life, or the one after that.
They are all writing books, Rumsfeld, Bush, and god knows who else. They belong in prison but instead they write books and people actually buy them. You go figure.
Posted by: rob payne at February 17, 2011 06:19 PMJonathan, after watching this clip again, I wonder if you might not be mistaken about the Hillary 8000's capabilities. A couple of times it shows a trace of a smile - I can't tell whether from amusement, satisfaction, or possibly even embarrassment.
Reading more about the perp, Mr. McGovern,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_McGovern
we see that "Upon retirement, McGovern was awarded the Intelligence Commendation Medal from Bush (which he later returned) and worked for Washington-based non-profits before becoming co-director of the Servant Leadership School in Washington. Now, McGovern works with Tell the Word, the publishing arm of the Church of the Saviour in Washington, D.C."
From this we can conclude that
a)he has become a religious fanatic
b)as someone turning 73 this year, it is not improbable that he is suffering from age-related cognitive decline - this may be causal with respect to the first factor, as well.
If he can be persuaded to remain quietly at home it may not be necessary to involuntarily hospitalize him to prevent him from harming himself or others.
Posted by: mistah 'MICFiC' charley, ph.d. at February 17, 2011 06:53 PMCorrection - McGovern is 72 this year, not 73.
Mistah Charley
McGovern has been going at it pretty much nonstop for seven years now. I think he contracted the same age-related cognitive disorder as Chalmers Johnson and Andrew Bacevich.
Hillary Clinton obviously has escaped it.
Posted by: N E at February 17, 2011 10:01 PMCol. Ann Wright (Ret.) also caught that age-related disorder and has been going at it for eight years.
Posted by: Susan at February 18, 2011 12:26 AMReally, I think these old folks have had their day and should all think about going Home. It would be so much better for everyone.

Posted by: tooearly at February 18, 2011 02:36 AMSpeaking of books, I can't wait to get in line for Bristol's memoirs.
Posted by: knowdoubt at February 18, 2011 05:54 AMI am deeply disturbed that you can so cavalierly insult machines, Jonathan. There is not one recorded instance of a machine committing a moral wrong. To associate any of these marvelous devices with an entity like Clinton or even merely one affiliating with Obama by choice does the machine community a grave disservice, and, indeed, justifies a strong response. Let's not give our machine kin more reason to act.

Posted by: N E at February 18, 2011 03:53 PMMike Meyer: I called, NOW its YOUR turn.
Really? Did you get a cookie?
mistah charley, ph.d. He has proven his loyalty to mass murder many times since then.
Well, yeah, but everyone had to vote for him because he was black and that makes it all better.
Posted by: AlanSmithee at February 18, 2011 03:57 PMAlanSmithee: NO cookie, that I know of, but I DID talk to human being who SEEMED angry at the end of OUR conversation. (as U may have noticed I anger some folks on occasion. Apparently this was such an occasion)

He was not the only black person in the election.
Posted by: No One of Consequence at February 18, 2011 04:39 PM I have learned from a knowledgeable source tied to my former employer (Department of State) that the assault on Ray was carried out by George Washington University security personnel. NO REPEAT NO DIPLOMATIC SECURITY OR SECRET SERVICE PERSONNEL WERE INVOLVED.

NO REPEAT NO DIPLOMATIC SECURITY OR SECRET SERVICE PERSONNEL WERE INVOLVED
Well, that's all right, then.
Posted by: NomadUK at February 18, 2011 05:41 PMAt least Kerry, when Andrew Meyer was being tazed in front of him, had the decency to mount an actual human response. He didn't DO anything to stop it, but he at least made some noises like he could see something happening.
Posted by: saurabh at February 18, 2011 09:50 PMGee, I feel kinda bad now that I know it wasn't Hillary's minions thumped that OLD MAN. GWU MUST be a wonderful educational experience, and OBVIOUSLY safe from those LOUD OLD MEN. I ought see if my progeny can get in there so they can learn to shut the fuck up. PLUS they can learn THAT valuable lesson from OUR best and brightest foreign policy experts like Hillary.('cause STFU IS OUR foreign policy)
Posted by: Mike Meyer at February 18, 2011 11:44 PMHillary's demeanor during Ray McGovern's arrest
from commenters at Larry Johnson's blog No Quarter:
Tricia
Hillary should not be blamed and that she can go on despite turmoil is part of her strength.
creeper
Hillary can have the blame, for all I care. She never even batted an eye...just kept right on talking. What a disappointment she is.
DM
As soon as I saw the video I knew Hillary had nothing to do with Ray's arrest, though she cracked just a tiny, tiny smile when she saw the drama. I think it amused her. She was really cool. She handled the whole thing very professional, as always. She continued her speech as if an unimportant noise had been heard. She's cool.
And to think that some were shocked when they discovered many Americans are pro-torture.
Posted by: No One of Consequence at February 19, 2011 02:07 PM"though she cracked just a tiny, tiny smile when she saw the drama."
common symptom of a bowel spasm--i.e., she had farted in an exultant outburst of Clintonian schadenfreude seeing the sadistic behaviour of her henchpersons...
Posted by: Dean Taylor at February 19, 2011 07:51 PMKerry ran down a Vietnamese kid and shot him in the back. At least he did something! But then Kerry is white like Obama and Mike Meyer.
Posted by: rob payne at February 20, 2011 12:55 PMrob payne: How unfair to Obama it seems to me. He's CLEARLY to young to have been going around shooting Vietnamese Kids. (whereas clearly I'm not.) (sometimes one comes to the belief the kid has a grenade, and so...)

Posted by: Mike Meyer at February 20, 2011 02:54 PMWell well, white boy Mike shows his true colors after all. Hey Mike, did they spit on you?
Posted by: rob payne at February 21, 2011 07:36 AMrob payne: Who is "they"? Since I'm forced to ask THAT question, then YOU may assume no one has. Why do YOU ask? (a minor point, I'm a HEBREW, and I got YOUR "boy" hanging)
Posted by: Mike Meyer at February 21, 2011 09:49 AMrob payne: I didn't realize I was hiding my "true colors". I like to feel that I'm being truthful at all times, though sometimes I fail in that endeavor. I'm VERY proud that I served in The Army, and feel that I tried to serve this nation. It's just things didn't turn out as I invisioned on the day I signed up and took MY OATH. In fact things turned out 180 degrees the other way around. But THAT'S warfare. The AMERICAN TAXPAYER PAID ME every cent that I felt was promised and I feel I did as I was told. THAT'S ALL I can say truthful about the situaion.
Posted by: Mike Meyer at February 21, 2011 10:06 AMThe thing that has most shocked me about this story is the hostility directed at unions. I understand that the ruling class has been working on this for a long time, but it still amazes me the degree to which their message has taken hold. I am not from a union family, but I understood by high school what unions had won - and at what price. People apparently really think that sick pay, vacation days, a minimum wage, health benefits, et cetera would just fall from the sky from our benevolent betters. Woe.
Posted by: RMailhot at February 21, 2011 09:50 PMMike,
Alright, that was fairly said. I was naive a long time ago as well.
